Narrative easily emerges, though, when the subject is situated in a scene … or when two or three subjects occupy the same canvas…In the commissioned portraits of musicians for the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, Michalopoulos combines the personality of the subject and the timbre of their music with the narrative of place in which they are situated.
